I come from a long line of avid gardeners and animal lovers, so it was only natural that I would inherit a love of living things.
Likewise, having an artistic eye also runs in my family. I was always encouraged to pursue mine, but over the years, I only dabbled here and there, without any real commitment.
Then in 1998, I got my first digital camera, and my photographic journey began...
It would be fair to say that I'm the "outdoorsy" type, because I spend a whole lot more time outside and off the beaten path, than I do indoors or in crowded places. The fact is, I'm fascinated by flora and fauna, but I'm also strangely drawn to historic houses, churches, and tobacco barns (the latter, especially if horses live there). I'm a dog groomer by trade, and in my spare time, I enjoy gardening, keeping poultry, riding horses, training dogs, hiking, birding, etc... And I've always been a huge advocate of nature conservation and adoption of homeless companion animals - so consequently, much of my adult life has been spent volunteering with my local wildlife, pet and equine rescue and rehabilitation organizations.
As a photographer, my interests are always reflected in my images, and I'm very proud to say that some of them have been published and won awards. But, in my opinion, that's not what photography is all about. To me, photography is about creating timeless and compelling images that document stories and preserve memories. My goal is to make the viewer stop and think (and in some cases, remember and hopefully smile) when they see my images - whether it be today, tomorrow, next year, or decades from now.
I specialize in creating photojournalistic images using natural light, and my style is bright, colorful and detailed. I'm available to private clients for custom pet, equine and farm photography - but I also do a fair amount of nature and landscape work, which I share on social media to raise awareness of the beauty of wildlife, natural areas and rural countryside, all of which are quickly vanishing right before our eyes.
Although I'm not a world traveler, I do tend to take the back roads where ever I go - and I carry my camera with me always, because there are endless opportunities to capture beautiful, meaningful images right here in Maryland, near the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. My inspiration comes from one of my favorite quotes:
"Art is not to be found by touring to Egypt, China, or Peru. If you cannot find it at your own door, you will never find it."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
